Artistic research project looking for good sound ergonomics in both public- and work environments.
This is an applied art project. Concept and direction, Jaap Klevering.
Between december 2015 and september 2017.

This is a project funded by the European Social Fund and made possible by the city of Joensuu. It aims at heigthening awareness of the effects sounds have on individuals and bringing these experiences into discussion.

The way sounds are perceived is always a subjective experience. Sounds that are good for one may not sound so good to another. Even (almost) imperceptible sound may be annoying. A general decibel rule setting loudness limits is not sufficient. Sound can be found in surprising places. Not all sound is bad. Also good sound exists. This project studies both and everything between.

City Sounds is a collaboration with the Pohjois-Karjalan Association for Mental health support. Participants to the project are in advanced mental health rehab. Its rewarding to see how these people benefit from the discussion.
